What is Disaster Recovery in the Cloud?

Cloud disaster recovery is a service that allows remote devices to be backed up and recovered on a cloud-based platform.

Cloud disaster recovery is an infrastructure as a service (IaaS) solution that backs up specific system data to a distant cloud server. In the event of a disaster or system restoration, it offers updated recovery point objectives (RPO) and recovery time objectives (RTO).

Cloud disaster recovery often offers similar services to on-premises or company-managed off-premises disaster recovery plans (DRPs) but on a more cost-effective, efficient, and provider-managed platform. Users and storage space are provisioned by a cloud DRP vendor, and specified systems are updated on a regular basis with client software deployed on each system. Users may add, alter, and delete systems and storage space without having to worry about the infrastructure supporting the back-end.

The user of a cloud-based disaster recovery solution can scale up the complete cloud DRP solution from one to many. Only the storage and client software licenses are generally invoiced to the customer on a monthly basis. Most Cloud DR plans provide backup and recovery for essential server machines that run enterprise-level software such as MS-SQL, Oracle, and others.
